The KCMSD continues to shrink. Enrollment is now below 17,000 students and ranks seventh in the metro area behind North Kansas City and Kansas City, Kansas. Just 10 years ago, there were more than 35,000 students. KCMSD is planning more school closures and staff reductions to “right-size” its operations as a result. According to Rebecca Lee-Gwin, the District’s Chief Financial Officer, now more than ever “we have to have efficient management.”
